US President Donald Trump late Thursday directed the Justice Department to provide "any and all" information about the disgraced sexual offender Jeffrey Epstein, who died by suicide in 2019 awaiting trial on federal charges of trafficking of underage girls.

Trump previously had a relationship with the late disgraced financier, who died in a jail cell in 2019 as he awaited a trial on sex trafficking charges.

According to a Quinnipiac University poll, the majority of U.S. voters disapprove of Trump's handling of files related to Epstein, a wealthy financier who died by suicide in jail in August 2019, weeks after his arrest on sex trafficking charges.

The Wall Street Journal reported that Trump was among dozens of associates who wrote Epstein a letter in 2003 to mark his 50th birthday. Trump said he will sue the newspaper.

President Trump has faced growing calls for Attorney General Pam Bond to reverse her decision to withhold evidence in the Epstein case from the public.

Some Republicans have called for the appointment of a special counsel, as MAGA allies have raged over the handling of the Epstein investigation.

Some of Trump's most prominent supporters had promoted the idea of his naming a special counsel to review the case.

The Justice Department this week fired Maurene Comey, a federal prosecutor in New York who was involved in cases against Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell.
