Benson Kipruto (in the closest men's elite finish in race history) and Hellen Obiri led Kenyan podium sweeps of the New York City Marathon. Kipruto held off charging countryman Alexander Mutiso by an unofficial three hundredths of a second after 26.
It took a photo finish to determine the men's portion of the 2025 New York City Marathon. Despite posting the same finishing time, Kenyan Benson Kipruto narrowly beat out country-mate Alexander Mutiso Munyao to win the event. Both runners finished with a time of 2:08:09, with Kipruto finishing .16 seconds before Mutiso.

Kenyan runner Benson Kipruto secured a dramatic victory at the 2025 TCS New York City Marathon, winning by a mere three-hundredths of a second. This win marks Kipruto as the first man to achieve four different World Marathon Majors titles.
The distinguished Kenyan women's marathoner set a dazzling pace early and then pulled away for her second win since 2023.
As the women's portion of City Marathon reached its final stages, three former champions were battling it out for a course record. Sharon Lokedi, Hellen Obiri and Sheila Chepkirui — the three most recent winners of the event — found themselves neck and neck with three miles to go and history on the line.
