The Kansas City Royals are searching for their first World Series championship since 2015. After sweeping the Baltimore Orioles in the American League Wild Card Series of the 2024 MLB playoffs, Kansas City must now face the top-seeded New York Yankees in the American League Division Series.

Only one player from the 2015 World Series-winning team remains with the Royals: World Series MVP Salvador Perez. The 34-year-old catcher is also the longest-tenured Royal, having played with the team since 2011 and been on contract with the organization since 2006, when he was 16 years old.

Over in the National League, the Padres took care of business and swept the Atlanta Braves to secure their NLDS berth against the NL West rival Dodgers. The Mets, meanwhile, won their first playoff series since they made the World Series since 2015.
