A 79-year-old Jacksonville man who wandered off the summit of Mt. Washington in New Hampshire has prompted a multi-day search by state parks personnel, wildlife officers and volunteers, the New Hampshire Fish & Game Law Enforcement Division said.

A three-day search for a hiker who went missing from the summit of Mt. Washington on Wednesday ended in tragedy.

79-year-old William "Bill" Davis was reported missing around 6 p.m. on Wednesday by his wife. He wandered off the summit of Mt. Washington after taking the Cog Train to the top. According to Davis's wife, he was last seen in the area of the observation deck around 3:20 p.m.

Two Canadian hikers needed rescuing after becoming stuck in steep terrain on New Hampshire's Mount Washington Tuesday, according to officials.

Climbing without ropes or a harness for protection, the man suffered severe injuries when he plummeted from Pinnacle Buttress on New Hampshire's highest mountain.
