ABILENE, Texas (Gray News) – A baby giraffe from the Abilene Zoo died last week after suffering a severe leg fracture for unknown reasons. “It is with deep sadness that the Abilene Zoo announces the devastating loss of our beloved baby giraffe, Zahara,” the zoo said in a statement. “The cause of the injury is undetermined.”

Two months since “capturing the hearts” of a Texas zoo community, a baby giraffe suffered a fatal injury. Zahara, a giraffe at Abilene Zoo, needed emergency care when she broke her leg, the cause unknown, according to the zoo. As the medical team was working to help her, she died the morning of Oct. 2.
