While the torrential downpour caused by an atmospheric river has slowed down, rivers and waterways continue to rise and flood in the state.

Heavy rain​ has triggered flooding, rescues and road closures in Washington state, with Gov. Bob Ferguson declaring a statewide emergency​.

Gov. Bob Ferguson, who has warned that as many as 100,000 people would need to evacuate statewide, said Friday the Trump administration has approved a disaster declaration.

A foot and a half of rain pushed the water levels of at least four rivers in Washington, including the Skagit River, to hit record highs, surpassing some of their previous records set over 35 years ago.

After thousands of residents in some Washington towns were evacuated, the federal government approved a request to seek emergency financial aid.

BURLINGTON, Wash — All residents in the city of Burlington have been ordered to evacuate as the Gages Slough begins flooding into homes. Skagit County posted the evacuation order at 6:12 a.m. Friday, and said the National Guard will be going door-to-door to notify residents and assist with evacuations.
