National Hurricane Center eyes Caribbean for potential tropical system next week
The National Hurricane Center (NHC) is monitoring a tropical wave for the possibility of tropical development in the Atlantic Ocean.
The new system on the National Hurricane Center's tropical outlook map is Invest 96L — AL96 — in the northern Atlantic. It has a low chance for development as it moves over cooler waters and runs into wind shear, which helps prevent tropical storms from developing.
Post-Tropical Cyclone Jerry was causing rough seas far from land early Oct. 12 as National Hurricane Center forecasters shifted their focus to Invest 97L out in the Atlantic, and the nor'easter heading away from Florida toward many coastal states to the north.
Tropical Storm Jerry continues to strengthen and is now expected to become a hurricane late Friday, Oct. 10 or Saturday, Oct. 11.
