Vladimir Putin has carried out nuclear missile tests and large-scale drills a day after his summit with Donald Trump was cancelled.
In a dramatic twist, Russia's military might was on full display, leaving the world on edge. Just as talks of peace seemed within reach, tensions soared.
Russia said it had carried out a major training exercise involving nuclear weapons, a day after the United States announced a delay in plans for a second summit between presidents Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump.
The Kremlin said that as part of the maneuvers, a Yars intercontinental ballistic missile was test-fired from northwestern Russia, and a Sineva ICBM was launched by a submarine in the Barents Sea.
The missile was launched from a specially designed rail-based mobile launcher, providing cross-country mobility.
The U.S. Navy carried out four scheduled unarmed missile tests of the Trident II D5LE off the coast of Florida last week.
