A Muslim woman said the Police Department forced her to remove her hijab following an incident at Temple University in September.

Johara Shama, the Muslim woman who had her hijab forcibly removed, said she was held for 20 hours by Philadelphia police without access to her religious headwear.

Temple University has temporarily banned Students for Justice in Palestine from operating on campus, the latest in a wave of suspensions against pro-Palestinian student groups amid sustained protests against the war in Gaza.

Temple University has suspended a pro-Palestinian student group over a protest that led to four students being arrested. The group claims Temple police used excessive force, but police counter that video from body-worn cameras shows otherwise.

After a Pro-Palestinian protest on Temple University's campus, four were arrested and two of them claim officers were intimidating and violent. The student group has been suspended and school leaders have agreed to meet with a Muslim civil liberties and advocacy group.

Temple University placed its Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP) chapter on an interim suspension after protesters disrupted a career fair on Sept. 26, Philly Voice reported.
