The North Carolina Ferry Division has released a statement following the General Assembly’s passing of Senate Bill 449 on Tuesday.

State budget negotiations have stalled between North Carolina Republican leaders in the General Assembly and the calendar year appears headed to an end without a new two-year spending plan. The budget by state law was due July 1 and Wednesday represented Day 114.

The government shutdown stretched into a new week as most congressional Democrats and Republicans continue to be at odds, leaving federal workers, military members and other Americans to worry about critical paychecks.

Senate Democrats on Wednesday failed for a second time to convince a single Republican to block President Donald Trump’s energy emergency declaration that allows the administration to bypass environmental regulations to build energy projects of his preference.

The back and forth on day 23 of the government shutdown comes as the two parties are at a protracted impasse with no signs of either side giving in.
