Cleveland acquired Santana for the first time in a deadline deal with the Dodgers on July 26, 2008 for Casey Blake. In 2022, the Royals traded Santana to Seattle just before the deadline. The Pirates did the same thing in 2023, shipping Santana to Milwaukee on July 27.
Santana is currently in his third stint with Cleveland and is undoubtedly one of the most beloved players to don an Indians/Guardians jersey over the last two decades. The idea of the organization trading him away, after all Santana has done for the franchise, may seem peculiar.
