ASTANA – Kazakhstan’s referendum on the construction of a nuclear power plant (NPP) was transparent and in accordance with the national laws and internationally accepted electoral standards, said international observers during press briefings on Oct. 7.

Kazakhstan passed a referendum to build its first nuclear power plant by majority vote Monday, meaning Korea now has a chance to be included in an international consortium to build the reactor in the Central Asian country.

In a referendum, the Kazakh electorate has voted in favor of building a nuclear power plant. So far, no nuclear power has been produced in Kazakhstan.
