A deadly “hot nail” This horse was diagnosed with a fracture to the coffin bone, by xray. He had been 3 legged lame for days and poulticing did eventually draw out an assumed abscess. He was eventually euthanised due to the fracture and ongoing abscessing and I was donated his feet. I studied this foot with Professor Pollitt and we did not find a fracture on dissection, but we found a disrupted area in the lamellae that was yellow and necrotic.
