Central Marin Flooding Update King Tides This flooding, documented by @SarahJGibby, is being driven in part by king tides. King tides occur when the sun and moon align and create higher than normal ocean levels. When these tides coincide with rainfall and storm runoff, drainage systems are unable to empty properly, causing water to back up into streets, parking areas, and low lying properties.
