The Wii Towai tribe of Papua New Guinea is often called one of the “scariest” tribes — not because they spread violence, but because of their haunting ceremonial appearance. During rituals, tribe members don towering, carved masks made from wood, plant fibers, and animal hides, often resembling wild bird-spirits or forest guardians.
