Do you know what this instrument is? 🎶 It's an Uilleann pipe, the heart and soul of Irish music! Unlike traditional bagpipes, the Uilleann pipes are inflated with a bellows, creating a unique and complex sound. The term used today comes from the Irish-Gaelic word "píobaí uilleann" (meaning "elbow pipes") and refers to how they are inflated. This beautiful performance happened on our Coors Light stage. Meet the Uilleann pipes or píobaí uilleann - “pipes of the elbow” in Irish Gaelic. Their air comes from a bellow held under the player’s arm - freeing them up to sing along if they want to! Composer Neil Martin brought his pipes to the In Tune studio for this performance of Molloy's jig - originally written for legendary Irish flautist Matt Molloy of The Chieftains.
