Hershey Medical Center has begun enrolling participants in an international clinical trial evaluating an investigational antiviral drug, remdesivir, for treatment of COVID-19. It has been previously tested in humans with Ebola virus disease and has shown some therapeutic benefit against SARS and MERS coronaviruses in animal models. The first phase of the new Emergency Department expansion is now open. Hershey Medical Center is the only medical facility in Pennsylvania to be accredited as a Level 1 trauma center for both children and adults, with more than 70,000 annual emergency visits. For the fourth consecutive time, Hershey Medical Center achieved Magnet designation from the American Nurses Credentialing Center.
